March Madness 2016… Story By: Dave Dowel

Is March Madness the Cinderella Ball? Well, to some team yes it is, what is March Madness? Well, March Madness is the College Basketball Division 1 way they figures out it is champion. It starts with the conference tournaments and the winner of that gets an automatic bid to the March Madness. As an example the Gonzaga Bulldogs won thus Conference and are get an automatic bid to March Madness.

Some people call March Madness the Cinderella Ball because anything can happen, but something has never happened. One of those things is, that a 16 set has never beat a 1 set, and there is 4 #1 set and 4 #16 and in 77 years. The number of teams has changed a lot in 77 years when it began there were only 8 teams then it as gone as large as 68 team in 2011, but since 2011 there have been 68 teams with four play-in-games before the round of 64.

So March Madness start on/around March 15th or on the third Tuesday of March, and that is the play-in-games. So starting on Thursday of that week, starts the round of 64. On Thursday and Friday is the round of 64 and they cut it to 32, so they cut the teams in half and the Saturday and Sunday they do the same thing. They cut the field in half to the sweet 16. Then on Thursday and Friday, they play the Sweet 16 and they cut it in half to the Elite 8. Then on Saturday and Sunday they cut it in half again to the Final 4. Then on Saturday, they go from the Final Four to the Final Two team that are Fighting on April 4. So this happens in a little over 3 weeks.

Teams that already won their Conference Tournament are; Atlantic Sun Conference winner is Florida Gulf Coast, Big South Conference winner is University of North Carolina Asheville, Colonial Athletic Association winner is University of North Carolina Wilmington, Horizon League winner is Green Bay, Ivy League winner is Yale, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference winner is Iona, Missouri Valley Conference winner is University of North Iowa, Northeast Conference winner is Fairleigh Dickinson, Ohio Valley Conference winner is Austin Peay,  Southern Conference winner is Chattanooga, Summit League winner is South Dakota State, West Coast Conference winner is Gonzaga.

Conference that not yet crown there Automatic bids are America East Conference, American Athletic Conference, Atlantic 10 Conference, Atlantic Coast Conference,  Big 12 Conference, Big East Conference, Big Sky Conference, Big Ten Conference, Big West Conference, Conference USA, Mid-American Conference, Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, Pacific-12 Conference, Patriot League, Southeastern Conference, Southland Conference, Southwestern Athletic Conference, Sun Conference, Western Athletic Conference.
